Facebook Addiction- Entry #6

As I sit here trying to finish my homework frantically my laptop popups telling me it has 10%. I get up to grab the cord to charge it and my aunt snatches it. She says she needs to charge her laptop. I explain I need it to finish my homework since it's due at 12. She responds with "Well I need to check my facebook." So ask me for it later. This is beyond crazy to me. Which leads me to my topic today; Facebook addiction.
We all  know someone who is a social butterfly on facebook, but can not hold a simple conversation face to face. "We have also found that people who are anxious and socially insecure use facebook more than those with lower scores on those traits, probably because those who are anxious find it easier to communicate via social media than face to face," says Andreassen. People are using facebook and other social sites to get through their social anxiety. But what about people who don't have social issues and use it for games or other problems?
We all know someone who can't stay off facebook while they drive, talk to you, or even stay off it while at school or work. People who use facebook to play games get hooked just like they would to any other gaming site. Researchers in Norway did a study to try and understand facebook addiction. What they came up with is that people use facebook as an activity or find it easier to talk about their problems via facebook. People also use it facebook to forget their problems or as an distraction. Studies show that if people were not addicted to facebook they would find something else to obsess over.

Wall-E- Entry #5

I personally have never seen the movie Wall-E. But from what I've seen from this short clip it's set in the future. When I thought about the future I thought of technology advances, humans living with animals, and nature playing a hue role in playing a large role in peoples lives. Aside from the technology advances I was completely wrong. The world is moving into technology and away from nature.
This video shows overweight people sitting on chairs and having robots do everything for them. The people in this clip have a screen in front of their faces all day while passing holograms. The clothes they where are changed by robots and their food source is also delivered by a robot. They depend on technology for everything, which is what our society is moving into slowly but surely, I think it represents our world.
This video made me very sad, We are depending on technology for everything possible. Something that truly got to me from this video was the woman Wall-E interrupts to get to Eva. The screen is away from her face for a second and she sees all of the holograms and her eyes get wide, as if she had no idea it was there, This is how our society is; Unaware of whats actually happening in front of our eyes.
Who would've thought that I'd ever be doing my homework on a computer? This alone shows how much we depend on a piece of technology. What happens to someone who doesn't have access to a computer or laptop daily? Essentially they'll fail the class. This video makes me want to do a technology detox. Sadly I can't do that because in order to maintain good grades and stay in touch with humans I have to use technology. I wish I could show the planet this video and show them their destiny if we, as a whole, don't stop depending on technology for everything!

Islamophobia- Entry #4

As many as you have probably heard social media has been exploding with the hashtag #istandwithAhmed. This is a result of a freshmen in high school in Irving, Texas being arrested after he brought a home made clock to school. Ahmed Mohamed was beyond excited to show his teacher his invention, but instead hours after showing his teacher he was put into hand cuffs then detained. All because a teacher, who had no idea he did this for a class, assumed it was a bomb. Social media began buzzing with the hashtags and began voicing their opinions on whether the school did the wrong thing or not. But this runs much deeper then a schools mistake.
September 1, 2001 changed the lives for many innocent Muslim people. They were profiled and discriminated against because of  the actions of a few extremist. Now, Muslim people are perceived as  evil. If you ask random people what's the first thing they think of when they hear the word "terrorist" they will most likely answer with "Muslim." So how is a religion who teaches love, passion, and respect seen as evil? Media. Media plays a huge role and over the years media has played a huge role in the way Muslims are seen to the public. The media has done a great job convincing people that Muslim women are all oppressed and that every Muslim will kill for their beliefs. Muslims are constantly being discriminated against, but this is okay, because to America, the few extremists represent the entire religion.

So what does Ahmed have to do with anything? If Ahmed had not been Muslim he would have never been arrested. But because of his background he was profiled and arrested. Ahmed represents Muslims in America. I challenge you and anyone who will read this to think of a stereotype you hear on a daily basis. Now go out and find someone you think might fit this stereotype. Go on a date, grab some coffee, befriend them. Let them prove you and that stereotype wrong. You might learn a little bit about the world and about yourself.

Advances in medicine with technolgy- Entry #3

This video is so beautiful. It shows how far technology has came in the medical world.A hearing aid this small and this efficient wouldn't have been possible 200 hundred years ago, or even 100 years ago. But because technology is far more advanced then it has ever been its making its mark in the medical field.

This is what an old hearing aid generally looked like. Someone would talk directly into it and it'd sit deep and uncomfortably in your ear. If you were deaf or bad with hearing you'd have to carry this big and bulky instrument. It had no special features or even any features at all.

This is modern day hearing aid. It's small, has a nice look to it, and can even look like a bluetooth hearing piece. It fits in a purse, wallet, or even a pocket. Say someone is speaking low, it manually adjusts the volume for you. It connects to an android or iPhone phone just like a bluetooth head-set would. It can pick up noises a far distance away and it reduced noisy background noises. A simple hearing aid shows how much technology has advanced and how much these advances are changing lives.

College is a life style - Entry#2

College. College. College. Where do I start? College is one of the most confusing challenges I've took on. I'm going on to my third week and so far I've walked into the wrong class room four times, I've missed deadlines because I'm equivalent to a cave man when it comes to computers, and I've spent $300 to relearn things I was taught in the seventh grade. College is not just school, it has to become a life style. You have to be able to balance work, a social life, sleep, and any where from 5-11 assignments for each class all due on the same day. But who can sleep knowing they have all this work due?!

Regardless of all the home work, I can not begin to explain how happy I am to be back in school. Although I graduated in may and started again in August it felt much longer. School is tough but I love challenges. The best thing about school is that beside course work school teaches many lessons. I'm learning to become independent, I can no longer just copy off someone in the class the morning the paper is due, I can no longer use my phone to google the answers, I can't depend on someone driving me to and from school every day. I'm learning to pay my own bills and have to figure out a solution to my own problems. Professors also play a huge role in these lessons. Each teacher teaches you something new, about a topic and even yourself. Because they all expose certain sides of you.

I hope that every week as I share my personal experience with growing and learning while in college someone that hasn't yet entered college will read this and use it as a guide. I hope someone will be able to surpass the "college struggle" with this blog.  If I can help even one person then I've achieved.

Blog Opinions - Entry #1

Welcome back to my blog! Since I'm new to the blogging world I'm trying to decide how exactly I want to set my blog up. What better way to do that then exploring other blogs. While doing this I discovered some really great blogs. So great I'd actually like to share them with you.

http://www.invadingholland.com/ This is a blog all about Amsterdam, Places to see while you're there, jokes about tourists, food to eat, and much more. It's a casual blog but it has proper grammar, which is hard to find the two combined in blogs now a days. It has no irrelevant adds, Which I think is great. Who wants to keep having adds about feet popping up? If you're ever visit Holland I suggest using this blog as a guide to places to see, things to avoid, and food to eat. I'm going to add a picture for those of you who have never been to Holland. Its beautiful, i suggest everyone visits at least once!

http://exoticanimallover.com/?wscr=1680x1050 As I told you before, I have a HUGE passion for animals. You can never learn enough about them. This blog is all about animals. It ranges from domestic, wild, exotic ones ou may have never heard of, and endangered animals. The layout of this blog makes you feel like you're in the rain forest. If your a fellow animal lover and want to know how to help any animals or are just generally curious as to what is so amazing about animals I suggest you definitely read this blog!

A photo from when I went to the circus, Animals are just amazing!

http://www.tmz.com/ Although this "blog"was named top 50 in my personal opinion this blog is utter garbage. It has no meaning, its filled with pointless ads, and the grammar is atrocious. This is the type of blog that targets young teenagers or people who are looking to just waist their time.

In my opinion a good blog needs to be entertaining, readable, and have a meaning. Blogs are meant to give a lot of information in a few paragraphs. Blogs are a great way to learn about multiple things. With all of this said, I'm going to try my best to deliver a read worthy blog that wont put you to sleep. Until next time. - Dina.
